  • How many specimens are on exhibit?

    The Smithsonian has the largest natural history collection in the world, and it is constantly growing. Currently the museum has over 127 million items including 30 million plants, 7 million fish and 4.5 million insects. While many of the specimens are on display, a large percentage is kept in the museum's archives.
  • Is there a butterfly pavilion?

    Take a walk on the wild side through the exotic world of live butterflies. The Butterfly Pavilion is a must-see experience at the museum. This tropical exhibit offers visitors the rare chance to get up close to a variety of butterflies from across the globe. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for children.
